Alums Can Choose Va. Tech as Final Resting Place

Some Virginia Tech alumni love the school so much that they want their final resting place to be on campus. Virginia Tech is providing a way to do just that.

The university now has a columbarium for alumni, staff, students and friends of the school. Made of Hokie Stone, the columbarium was built last fall and has 60 niches that hold up to two urns. Each niche costs $5,000.

"We've heard a lot of alumni say they love the school so much they want to be buried here, they want to end up here," said Josh Burnheimer, assistant director of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association.

Built last fall, it serves as a final resting place for alumni, staff, students and friends of Virginia Tech.  It's complete with views of the duck pond and campus.

"We've got probably 30 plus applications in already and two confirmed reservations already," Burnheimer said.
