A 3-year-old died after a car rolled over him Wednesday night, Prince George's County police said.

The boy was behind the car when it started to roll in the 200 block of Aubrey Lane in Oxon Hill, Md. His father was carrying his 2-year-old daughter when it started to drift and the father jumped into the car to try to stop it.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The girl was taken to a hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries but was not run over, as was previously reported.

The father was treated for injuries at the scene.
