Last year was a bad one for thousands of workers in the nation's capital. The D.C. area, including Arlington and Alexandria, lost 15,700 jobs in 2009, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate at the end of the year was 6.2 percent.
While a bunch of Washingtonians lost their jobs, workers elsewhere had it even worse. Chicago (down 182,300 jobs) suffered the most job losses last year.
