Toddler Killed by Car in Charles County Identified

Police have identified the 1-year-old child struck and killed by a car in Waldorf Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 4 p.m. in the 10000 block of Lyles Place. The toddler was apparently struck by a car that was backing up.

Family members immediately took the child to a firehouse that was across the street, and paramedics took the child to Charles Regional Medical Center, where he was died as a result of his injuries.

Monday, police said the boy was Nathanial J. Penn.

The Charles County Sheriffs Office Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash. Authorities said it does not appear that drugs, alcohol or speed were contributing factors.
