Ask Liz: Eyelid Twitch

It's annoying, it's uncomfortable and it's persistant. So what causes your eyelid to twitch? The U.S. National Library of Medicine helped us with this answer.

It says an eyelid twitch is a general term for involuntary spasms of eyelid muscles. The most common things that make the muscle in your eyelid twitch are caffiene, stress and fatigue. So if you're tired, stressed or on a caffiene overload, it would make sense that your eyelid would spasm.

Once the spasms begin, they will probably continue on and off for a few days and then disappear.
It usually disappears without treatment. More sleep and less caffeine may also help make the spasms stop. So get some shut eye and put down the coffee mug!

And, of course, if the twitching is severe or lasts for more than a week, you should call your doctor.
