Snallygaster Loses Monster Status, Is Beer Fest Instead

D.C.'s very own beerfest is gearing up just in time for Oktoberfest. While you drink yourself into cirrhosis, you can take pride and comfort in the fact that you're drinking for a good cause. (We know you totally wouldn't go otherwise.)

Snallygaster is named for a mythical beast, not unlike the Loch Ness monster, who is purported to have roamed the Blue Ridge Mountains. The snallygaster was widely feared in the 18th and 19th centuries, but for DC locals, now it's just a event dishing up, oh, about 150 different craft beers.

A portion of Snallygaster profits go to Arcadia, a nonprofit that seeks to spread the word about sustainability and supporting local food sources.

It's happening Oct. 19 at Union Market.

Tickets can be purchased in three levels: at the door (yawn); the Kraken, which includes admission, 25 tasting tickets and a Snally beer mug; and lastly, the Jabberwock which includes admission, 30 tasting tickets, a beer mug and early VIP entry at noon.

For more information, tickets, beer lists and more, visit the Snallygaster D.C. site here.
