Eric Dane Gearing up for Birth of First Child

Eric Dane spends his days in fake hospital rooms on the set of "Grey's Anatomy," but he plans to spend some time in a real one, to support wife Rebecca Gayheart as she gives birth to the couple's first child in three weeks.

"I'll be in the room," the actor told Ellen DeGeneres for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show's" Monday February 15 episode. "I'm going to stay close to my wife and make sure that she is alright."

Eric's "Grey's" character, Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan, has spent the last several episodes meeting and discovering all about his pregnant grown-up daughter, played by actress Leven Rambin. And like his character, Eric himself is getting intrigued about his own little girl on the way.

"I'm excited," the dad-to-be told Ellen. "I'm really excited. I'm also very interested."

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Eric and Rebecca have discussed names for their impending arrival, but the actor told Ellen his wife wants to meet the little one first, to make sure the name they want fits.

"We have one [name] we really like, but Rebecca wants to wait until she sees her before we give her the name," he said.

While plenty of Hollywood stars have given their children out of the ordinary names (Apple, Pilot, Kal-El, Romeo, Bronx Mowgli), Eric said his baby girl is likely to get a precious, but normal moniker.

"It's not a weird name. I don't know… Whatever you name your kid I don't think it is a weird thing, but we went straight down the middle with this one," he said.
