Mr. Mayor Goes to China

Mayor Vincent Gray is heading out of town and several time zones over to meet with investors in China in hopes that the District's exploding growth will be a draw for foreign dollars. He told News4's Tom Sherwood:

We hope to be able to interest investors in China -- investing money here in the District of Columbia -- and talk further with them about the streetcar project. That's a big infrastructure project for us. We know they're interested in infrastructure. We hope they're interested in the District of Columbia.

D.C. is currently attracting about 1000 new residents a month, the mayor says, and projects like CityCenterDC, which is being funded by the country of Qatar, are examples of the financial partnerships possible.

"We're also going to be announcing that we're opening an office in China, which will really facilitate further development opportunities for our city," Gray says.
