Redskins Release Kicker Neil Rackers

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Washington Redskins have released veteran kicker Neil Rackers.

The 'Skins signed the free agent kicker in April to provide incumbent placekicker Graham Gano with some competition, but unfortunately, for the 12-year veteran, he could not wrangle the job away.

Interestingly enough, Rackers (two) attempted more field goals than Gano (zero) through three preseason games, but he finished 1/2, making a 28-yarder, but missing a 54-yarder against the Chicago Bears last week.

Rackers will be just one of many cuts forthcoming today; NFL teams must trim down their 90-man rosters to 75 by 4 p.m.
