“No one on the corner has swagga’ like us….”
Best captured in the words of M.I.A. and T.I., two local sisters have a swagga’ that is setting a new standard for fashion in the city. Tabby Zamani, 28, and Pari Zamani, 26, are co-owners of the chic Pentagon Row boutique, LaVand.
Opened in 2006, the boutique is breathing new life into Pentagon Row. Inspired by years of frustration with the lack of cutting-edge styles offered locally, these ballsy sisters became the fashion change they wanted to see, opening LaVand just two months after conceptualization.
LaVand, a word from the Persian language, Farsi, means “to exude sex appeal.” And who better to parlay these words into a business, than these two show-stopping Persian-American entrepreneurs. Savvy business women, Tabby and Pari make a point not to stock more than six pieces of any one item, branding LaVand a one-stop-unique-trend-shop. The boutique carries styles for both women and men focusing mostly on tops, dresses, jeans, handbags and accessories The two managing-partners travel more than a dozen times a year to N.Y.C. and L.A. to hand pick up-and-coming style pieces that can both wow and work in the DC scene.
This probably won’t be the last you hear about the Zamani sisters, with a private label in the works, aspirations of opening stores internationally and their latest recognition as Washington City Paper’s, “Best Clothing Boutique - 2009,” the Zamani name is sure to be one you will hear or wear soon.
