UConn star Bueckers takes in Goodman League game at Barry Farms originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Paige Bueckers, UConn women’s basketball standout, has been spotted in the nation’s capital, attending a Goodman League game in D.C.’s Barry Farms neighborhood.

Bueckers, a rising sophomore on Gino Auriemma’s University of Connecticut squad, has won virtually every award there is to win in college hoops. During her freshman year alone, she took home AP Player of the Year, Naismith Player of the Year and first-team All-America among dozens of others. She averaged 20.0 points and 5.8 assists per game in 2021, as her Huskies squad lost in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament to Arizona.
Barry Farms is home to the Goodman League, a prominent summer basketball league which has been in operation since 1977 in the nation’s capital. Goodman League games typically draw hundreds of spectators for their notable outdoor games in Southeast Washington.
Bueckers has a connection to the swamp as well. Though born and raised in Minnesota, Bueckers has a friend and future UConn teammate who has made quite the splash in local basketball news. Azzi Fudd, former guard at St. John’s College High School in D.C. and Huskies commit, is fresh off a stellar high school career which culminated with her earning the top spot on ESPN’s 2021 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings. Yes, the best player in college ball is about to team up with the nation’s best high school star.
Though Fudd was not spotted at the same Goodman League game as Bueckers, the pair will soon be making headlines in New England, beginning with Fudd’s 2021-22 freshman season.
