Throwback Thursday: Watch Bobby Mitchell Set Franchise Record Vs Browns

Throwback Thursday: Watch Bobby Mitchell Set Franchise Record vs Browns originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

All season the Washington Football Team will wear a black 49 patch on their uniforms to honor the late Bobby Mitchell, who passed away earlier this year.

Mitchell was Washington's first Black player in 1962, and while most fans understand his historic impact, not that many realize how electric he was as a football player.

A four-time Pro Bowler and an All Pro in 1962, Mitchell averaged 16.5 yards-per-catch in an era wh en defenders could absolutely destroy receivers coming over the middle and manhandled wideouts going down the field. In 1962 and 1963, Mitchell averaged about 70 catches and 1,4000 yards per season, and that was playing only 14 games!

Anyway, if a picture is worth 1,000 words, how much is a video worth? Watch below of Mitchell going 99-yards to the house and recognize how great he was.

Enjoy.
