A woman took her three children -- not grandchildren as previously reported -- out of school Wednesday morning and took them on a high-speed chase on the Beltway.
The woman, who has custodial rights over the children, took them out of Beacon Heights Elementary School in Riverdale at about 10 a.m. Talking to her mother on the phone, the woman threatened to harm the children, which led their grandmother to call police.
Officers pursued the woman's car on the Beltway. The chase ended near Arena Drive on the Inner Loop.
The children are safe, and the mother is expected to have a psychiatric examination. She apparently has a history of mental issues.
