Montgomery Co. Teen Dies After Getting Caught in Rip Current

An 18-year-old Montgomery County man died Monday evening after getting caught in a rip current, Ocean City Police confirmed.

Tuesday, Ocean City Police identified the man as Don Pen Soh Boma, who graduated from Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Md. last spring.

Boma and two other swimmers got caught in a rip current around 4:15 p.m. Monday near the 137th Street beach, town spokeswoman Jessica Waters said.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol says one of its lifeguards was able to rescue two of the swimmers, but Boma could not be immediately found.

According to The Baltimore Sun, a team of 15 rescue swimmers eventually found Boma, but he died at Atlantic General Hospital Monday evening.

Boma, a former soccer player, was remembered by his friends as soft-spoken guy with a great heart.

"He most definitely lived life to the fullest," one student said.

Counselors will be available to Paint Branch High School students this week.
