Shooting Near Justice Department Shut Down Streets

A man was hospitalized with injuries that are not life threatening, police say

A shooting investigation near the Justice Department on Thursday morning prompted police to close several streets downtown.

One man was hurt in the shooting about 2 a.m. and taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. No information about a possible suspect or motive has been released.

A large area was blocked off for several hours as police waited for daylight to finish searching the area. Pennsylvania Avenue reopened before 6:45 a.m. A stretch of 9th Street between Constitution and Pennsylvania remains closed.

Officers apparently have focused their investigation at the intersection of 9th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, outside the Justice Department building. The FBI Building and U.S. Navy Memorial Plaza are situated on the affected streets, and the Trump International Hotel is about two blocks away.
