School Supply Charity Helps 21,000 Students

Thousands of children in Northern Virginia will have new school supplies thanks to the efforts of the non-profit Kids R First.

Cases of supplies are sitting in schools throughout Fairfax and Loudoun counties. They will be distributed to needy students before the first day of classes.

The charity run by Susan Ungerer collects donations throughout the year, then corporate partners provide supplies at a discount.

Each school gets the supplies that exactly meet the needs of each grade level.

This year, 21,000 needy students at 90 Northern Virginia schools will benefit from the Kids R First effort.

Volunteer Patty Gehring says the charity is operated completely by volunteers.
