Prince George’s County Condo Complex Could Have Its Lights Turned Off

Another condo complex in Prince George’s County is at risk of losing its lights.

Last week, News4 reported about the Layhill Condos in Temple Hills on the verge of possibly being closed for money owed on utilities. A woman who does not want to be identified told News4 letters posted around her Upper Marlboro condominium complex saying Pepco may soon shut the power to all of the units shocked her.

She started renting from an owner at the Treetop Condominiums in February. She said when she moved in she had no idea the complex was in serious financial debt and owed money to utilities, including several hundred thousand dollars to Pepco.

A spokesman with the new management company at Layhill said they negotiated deals with the utilities to keep Layhill open for now.

Renee Pope, assistant director with Prince George’s Social Services, said while the issues are private business matters, social services will do what it can to help any residents who find themselves in a situation they need to leave.

“Sometimes we are able to help them with financial assistance to help them move or relocate from one place to another,” she said.
