Police Clear Barricade Situation in Northwest DC

A man was arrested after a five-hour standoff with police in Northwest D.C.

Police say a male suspect brandished a gun at a party or after-hours gathering in a building near Georgia Avenue NW and Jefferson NW, D.C.

Officers were called around 4 a.m. amid reports of a burglary and fight. When they arrived, a door was closed and officers were unable to make contact with about 10 people inside, police say.

Police established a permieter and eventually made contact with someone.

A large police presence was still in the area five hours later. At least one officer was seen with a gun drawn.

Officers on the scene said Wednesday morning a SWAT team was present. No injuries were reported.

Police began clearing the scene about 9 a.m. Several streets had been blocked off in the area, police said:

  • 5200-5400 blocks of Georgia Avenue NW
  • 1200 block of Jefferson Street NW
  • 1200 block of Ingraham Street NW
