Police Identify Suspect in VA Home Break-In, Sexual Assault

Police issued two warrants for the man they say broke into a home and sexually assaulted a woman early Saturday morning in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County, Virginia.

Edwin Ponce Martinez, 22, is charged with burglary and rape.

A 51-year-old woman said a man entered her home in the 8400 block of Blankenship Street about 3 a.m. Saturday while she slept. She told police he threatened and sexually assaulted her. He also burglarized the home before leaving, police said.

The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital.

Martinez may go by the name Javier, police said.

He is between 5-feet-2-inches and 5-feet-5-inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds with a small build, police said.
