Md. Student Grazed by Bullet While Walking to School

A Montgomery County high school student was grazed by a bullet while walking to school Monday morning.

The 17-year-old 11th-grade student had gone to a convenience store and was walking to Paint Branch High School on Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, Maryland, when he heard a gunshot and realized he'd been hit shortly before 9 a.m.

His cheek and ear were grazed by a bullet, police said. The student was not on the school's campus when he was shot, the school said in a letter to parents.

The victim was able to walk to the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department for help. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said they believe the shooter and victim knew each other in some way and the shooting wasn't random.
