A 42-year-old D.C. man has been charged with first-degree murder after a man he allegedly robbed and beat in Eastern Market died.
Carlton Coltrane, 60, was robbed and assaulted outside a 7-Eleven in the 400 block of 8th Street SE just before 1 a.m. last Tuesday, and died Friday. His death was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma.
"When you sit back and prey on a 60-year-old man with a cane and two grown men attack him for $60? That's a said state of our neighborhood," he said.
Coltrane's only son was stabbed to death in prision in 2010 while serving a sentence for armed bank robberies in Virginia in 2007.

"The family is destroyed," Bean said. "You know we had the loss of his son, and then behind that his mother is very elderly. She's sickly, and we couldn't tell her the day that it happend. We had to wait."
