Help Needed to Sort Through D.C.'s Haiti Donations

Volunteers can help today

The collection drive was supposed to last five hours, but because the response was so great, the Haitian Embassy stayed open much later.

Hundreds of people came to the embassy Sunday with donations of clothing, food and water. In fact, the response was so great that officials are now asking for volunteers to help them sort through all the donations and prepare them for shipment.

Those who want to help are asked to gather at 10:30 a.m. Monday on the old campus of D.C. General Hospital at 19th and Massachusetts Ave, SE. Volunteers will be taking an inventory of the collected items and will help pack them for eventual transport to Port Au Prince.
