Two men are in critical condition after a fire ripped through a rowhouse in D.C.'s Capitol Hill neighborhood early Friday.
The D.C. fire department said about 5:10 a.m. that they were responding to the blaze on the 700 block of Maryland Avenue NE, just blocks northeast of the Capitol Building.
One of victims, a man, was found on the front yard, the fire department said. Another man was rescued from the basement.
They were both taken to a hospital. Two firefighters also treated for minor injuries.
A third resident was not injured.
A picture shared on Twitter by DC Fire and EMS shows flames shooting from the front door of the home. The fire department said there were flames on both stories of the two-story house and in the basement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
