Teen Accused of Raping Fellow Student Inside School

18-year-old charged with rape at school for children with disabilities

LAUREL, Md. -- An 18-year-old student at a Laurel private school for children with disabilities has been arrested for allegedly raping a fellow student.

Howard County Police arrested John Rivers Jr., of Hyattsville, Monday at his home. He is charged with raping and assaulting the 15-year-old girl Friday afternoon in a stairwell at The Phillips School.

The girl told a school administrator Friday afternoon she was injured. The school administrator called an ambulance because the girl had obvious, undisclosed injuries, police said.

Detectives recovered evidence at Rivers' home over the weekend, but police didn't say what was found.

Rivers is being held at the county detention center.
