Leggett Injured in Crash With Alleged Drunken Driver

Montgomery co. exec. clears schedule to recuperate Monday

BURTONSVILLE, Md.  -- Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is home recuperating from minor injuries suffered in a crash with an alleged drunken driver, Gazette.net reported.

A pickup truck struck a county-owned sport utility vehicle being driven by a police officer and carrying Leggett and his wife Sunday night after the pickup's driver failed to stop at a red light on Sandy Spring Road near the off-ramp at Columbia Pike in Burtonsville, police said.

Leggett, his wife and the police officer all went to an area hospital, where they were treated and released.

The driver of the pickup, 47-year-old Kendall S. Smith, of Wheaton, was charged with drunken driving.

Leggett felt sore Monday and canceled his schedule, county spokesman Patrick Lacefield said. Leggett expects to return to work on Tuesday.
