Herndon Traffic Stop Ends In Serious Crash

A traffic stop on Tuesday morning ended in a serious crash near Herndon High School.

According to police, at about 7:15 a.m., a Herndon patrol officer attempted to pull over an SUV for speeding. Police say the driver pulled into a shopping center parking lot, then out onto Elden Street and sped away.

The officer pursued the speeding vehicle ended the chase as the vehicle approached Herndon High School, police said.

The SUV ran a red light at the intersection of Dranesville Road and Wiehle Avenue, struck a vehicle, and lost control and rolled multiple times. The SUV's driver and passenger were transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Police say there were no other injuries.
