A teenage driver struck and killed another teenager in Southeast D.C. Thursday morning and kept on going, according to D.C. police.
Witness Ka’tora Balam said 15-year-old Amoni Richardson was walking across the 3900 block of East Capital Street SE with a friend about 9:30 a.m. when she was struck by a gray sedan Thursday morning. She was not in the marked crosswalk when the driver hit her, police said.
“Her papers were everywhere,” Balam said. “Her shoes were on the ground. I guess that’s her friend; she was right there holding her.”
Amoni was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Officers found a heavily damaged car about a half-mile from the scene in an apartment complex parking lot, police said. They arrested a 17-year-old suspect and charged him with murder two.
People who live in the neighborhood said they’d like a speed camera and traffic light installed in the area.
