Painter Hurt After Falling Down Elevator Shaft at Private Home in Potomac

A man was seriously hurt after falling more than 20 feet down an elevator shaft at a private home in Potomac, authorities say.

Montgomery County Fire & EMS were called to the 9200 block of Cranford Drive on Tuesday morning, said spokesman Pete Piringer around 10:15 a.m.

The victim, who is in his 30s, is a painter who was working at the home, which is under renovation. Authorities said it is unclear how he fell down the shaft.

The man was transported as Priority 1, which means his injuries could be life-threatening.

Note: Authorities initially said the fall was greater than 25 feet.
