Pup Gets Vested

When the National Park Service needed a ballistic and stab-proof vest made on short notice for a 125-pound bomb-sniffing dog working the inauguration, a veteran Maryland correctional officer was able to help.

Lt. Rita Beal takes vests that correctional officers are no longer using and refits them for working dogs. On Friday morning, Beal will present a Park Service ranger and his dog, Samson, with a vest custom made for the dog just in time for the inauguration.

Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services officials say they believe Beal may be the only person in the country who makes these vests for dogs.
