WASHINGTON (AP) — The Congressional Black Caucus says it plans to push President Donald Trump on his budget priorities and other issues important to African-American voters in their meeting at the White House.
They also say they don’t plan to let this meeting Wednesday become a publicity event for the White House.
Trump only got 8 percent of the African-American vote.
Cedric Richmond is the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus. He says many people wonder why the organization would meet with the president. But he says if lawmakers only resist Trump instead of engaging him on policy, African-Americans around this country would “disproportionally suffer.”
A White House spokesman says Trump is willing to work with the black caucus.
The Congressional Black Caucus is made up of 49 black members of Congress.
