Around the World, Without Leaving D.C.

More than 30 Embassies open their doors

Start with a short trip to the sandy beaches of the Caribbean. Then head to the heart of Africa. And finish your day with one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, in the middle of the ring of fire. That’s right; you can visit all of these places in one day, without going through security or paying big bucks.

Today is the fourth annual “Around the World Embassy Tour,” the signature event in a month long cultural celebration called Passport DC. More than 30 embassies will open their doors to the public to share food, art, music, dance and culture with area residents.

Some of the highlights include:
- Tasting beer and rum, dancing the meringue, and playing dominos at the Embassy of the Dominican Republic.
- Learning about the heritage of art, such as basket making, jewelry and film at the Embassy of the Republic of Botswana.
- Take a trip down the ancient Silk Road with a visit to the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The tour runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is free to the public. You can find information booths at the DuPont Circle or Van Ness metro stations, or more about the events online at www.CulturalTourismDC.org
