Anne Hathaway On Her Ex & Finding Her Sense Of Humor

Not only did Anne Hathaway weather a breakup with her longtime boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, in 2008, but he was arrested as a con man and ultimately pled guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering in October.

Still, the “Rachel Getting Married” star told Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday it just gave her comedic material.

“[After the break-up] everyone was just surrounding me giving me so much love and I’m sobbing and I look up and I started laughing and said, ‘This is going to make a great opening monologue on ‘SNL,’’” she said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

“2008 was the year I learned to have a sense of humor about everything,” she added.

Ellen told Anne she wanted to fix her up – and the actress said prospective boyfriends just have to meet one requirement.

“At this point I would just like him to be law abiding,” Anne said.

And Anne may already have a new man – according to People, she was spotted holding hands fellow actor Adam Shulman earlier this week at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, where she picked up the Desert Palm Achievement Award for Best Actress for “Rachel Getting Married.”

But as for her breakup, the actress said the split did have some real benefits.

“The whole experience made me so much closer to my family,” Anne said. “I feel like I’m a better friend because I had to receive so much love in 2008 so I really understand what it is now to give it. It was really a transformative experience in a lot of good ways.”

Still, it’s not one she’s looking to repeat.

“[I’ll] never do it again,” she said.
