Meet the unofficial postman of Benning Road.
A D.C. man who struggled for more than a year to get mail delivered to his office says a post office recently gave him two bins full of mail for his neighbors and others, and he delivered it door to door himself.
Jeff McFarland and his wife run a dental practice in a medical building on Benning Road, in Northeast D.C. Their mail is rarely delivered every day.
"We're lucky sometimes if we get mail once or twice in a given week. We've gone sometimes 10 business days with no mail at all," McFarland said.
Dr. Richard Ashby, who works in the same building, also said he was frustrated. His bills are due even if checks don't arrive on time.
When a week went by without a delivery, McFarland went to the post office on Brentwood Road on Monday and tried to pick up the mail himself. He said he was given a week's worth of mail for several doctors in his office building. The two bins he received also had mail for addresses as far as nine blocks away.
"Is the post office in the business of delivering mail or just sitting on mail? Because they're not delivering it," he said.
The U.S. Postal Service said in a statement that they apologize and will investigate the issue.
