I was told by many to try 2Amys pizza upon moving to D.C. I was surprised to learn that I live in walking distance from the popular restaurant so I figured I would check it out.
2Amys (named after the ownersโ wives, both Amy) was tiny, loud and packed. Luckily, I was forewarned that the wait might be 30 minutes to an hour around dinner time, but it would be well worth it.
I found that 2Amys is a lot more than a typical pizza restaurant. It specializes in authentic Italian neopolitan pizzas. In fact, the owners only serve D.O.C. pizza, which means that the pizza must be prepared a certain way and with approved yeasts, grains, cheeses, etc. The Italian government began certifying Neopolitan pizzas in order to protect and ensure that they were made correctly.
Only a few pizzas on the menu were marked as โD.O.Cโ including, the margherita and marinana. You can add any toppings such as pepperoni, pancetta, tomatoes, peppers, etc. They have many other types of pizza including the norcia with tomatos, salami, peppers, and cheese, or the stuffed pizzas are a good bet as well.
They also serve small dishes of deviled eggs, potato frittato, or bruschetta.
For dessert, you can choose from a few authentic Italian options such as homemade ice creams, cannolis and marsala custard.
