MidCity's annual Dog Days sidewalk fest is coming up this weekend (Aug. 4-5), when more than 70 local businesses offer deals and promotions, plus food, a dog show, Zumba and music. It's all centered around 14th and U streets.
Looking for deals? Head over to Treasury (1843 14th St. NW) to browse their "famous" $5 rack out on the sidewalk, Smucker Farms of Lancaster County (2118 14th St. NW) to score 15 percent off all cheeses and custom-made furniture orders, and Studio Theatre (1501 14th St. NW) for their garage sale. Miss Pixie's Furnishings & Whatnot (1626 14th St. NW) will have 20 percent off all their drool-worthy merch during the weekend.
The Outwrite LGBT Book Fair (1318 U St. NW) will offer two days of book readings, vendors, discussions and more, on Friday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 4 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
In terms of dining deals, Nellie's (900 U St. NW) is serving up $25 all-you-can-eat brunch both Saturday and Sunday, with your first mimosa free.
And you can't have Dog Days without dogs, right? Stop by the dog show on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the African-American Civil War Memorial (U Street and Vermont Ave. NW) to check out some of the best tail-waggers' tricks and costumes.
Get your groove on (and/or work off that Nellie's brunch) during a Zumbathon (15th and P streets), where you’ll be able to dance in the street with Zumba instructors. That'll kick off right after the dog show and running until 12:30 p.m.
