Net-a-Porter's new app lets users shop the e-tailer's entire catalogue of designer duds from his or her iPhone.
Despite numerous reports that the future of retail lies in mobile, we really didn't believe it until this week, when both Net-a-Porter and Rue La La announced each was launching a new iPhone app, letting you shop on the fly from wherever you are.
During a conversation that will be available to download off net-a-porter next week, designer Roland Mouret admits he thought Natalie (as in Natalie Massanet, the founder of Net-a-Porter) was "crazy" when she first started talking about the idea of a high-end designer e-commerce site (i.e. Net-a-Porter). Now he's seen the error of his ways, apparently, and it seems the site again is on the cusp of online luxury retail domination, where others (ahem, eLuxury) seem to be lagging.
The new app includes a dizzying array of ways to keep you shopping 24/7 (we'll admit, our credit cards are shaking in our wallets right now), from browsing the "what's new" section to fashion advisors to a personalized wish list. Be advised, however, the app is updated with new content every Monday and Wednesday, so hop on early for the best selection. We should note also: This should make your Monday morning commute significantly more entertaining.
On the private-shopping site, Rue La La introduced its first iPhone app (and, we should mention, the first app for private sales) earlier this week. This one should be particularly addictive since it's, of course, time-sensitive -- no more waiting by your computer at work to score those discounted deals every day at 11AM.
