Wale performs at the 9:30 Club, taking a break from touring with Jay-Z to support the DMV Helps Haiti benefit concert
D.C. rapper Wale has cancelled his cancellation by cancelling something else.
Late last week, Wale abruptly cancelled a planned performance at the D.C. Black Pride festival, with two possible explanations: family obligations... and that he hadn't known Black Pride was a gay-related event when he agreed to appear, reported the Washington Blade.
But the situation has turned around: Wale has tweeted to announce that he will perform after all: "I'm cancelling what I was supposed to be doin..to go ...yeah ILL BE THERE!! I'm not scared nor do I have any hatred for ANYBODY."
Wale also said on Twitter that he "didn't even know bout it. I wasn't even posed to be in dc till july."
"People are forgiving," D.C. Black Pride board member Earl Fowlkes told Metro Weekly. "This whole situation can be looked at as a turning point for our black LGBT community. I can't imagine this happening ten years ago."
