Woman Injured in Fall Into Old Quarry

A woman is seriously injured Sunday morning after falling into an old quarry in Virginia.

Fairfax County Fire crews say the woman and a man were hiking in Occoquan Regional Park around 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon when the woman slipped.

She fell about 20 to 40 feet before hitting the ground and rolling into the water at the now flooded Old Occoquan Quarry.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue launched two inflatable boats to pull the woman out of the flooded quarry. She was then taken by helicopter to Fairfax hospital. Her injuries are considered serious but not life threatening. The man with her was also injured and taken to a local hospital.
