A man was injured when he and another adult jumped from a railroad bridge to avoid an oncoming train in Fairfax County.

The two jumped into a ravine near Hemlock Regional Park in Clifton, Va., about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

A medic on the train assisted the man until fire and rescue reached the scene.

The train, a VRE Manassas Line train that departed Union Station about 7 :50 p.m., was delayed about 40 minutes.
