Service has been restored on three Metro lines after a water main break tied up Tuesday morning's commute.
Service on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines was suspended for nearly three hours after a water main break outside Metro Center flooded the station's lower level tracks.
Metro Center's higher elevation caused the water to flow downhill and flood nearby Federal Triangle. At one point, the water was reported to be almost to the height of the platform.
Metro spent most of the morning pumping the water out of the stations. The agency says the water receded faster than expected, and an inspection showed no damage to the tracks.
The decision to restore service was made after two test trains made it successfully through the area.
Crews will work through the night to repair the 10 to 12 inch water main, which also closed 12th Street between E and F streets. They hope to have it fixed Wednesday morning.
Blue/Orange/Silver: Consider alternate travel options. Major delays, crowding, bus shuttles due to water main break at 12th & F Metro Ctr.
