Rookie Firefighter Arrested on Gun Charge in D.C.

A rookie D.C. firefighter has been arrested on charges of possessing an unregistered firearm and ammunition, D.C. police confirm.

Andre Wonson was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4200 block of 4th Street SE.

An officer served a search warrant inside Wonson's southeast D.C. apartment and found an unregistered Glock handgun, Glock magazines, optic laser sights and unregistered ammunition, according to the incident report.

Wonson is the third D.C. firefighter arrested in three weeks.

Veteran firefighter Chuck Ryan was arrested in Maryland after a fight broke out at a bar. According to charging documents, he assaulted a police officer and another person at a party. He is charged with two counts of assault, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a police officer.

Rookie firefighter Richard Kirkpatrick was arrested after police saw him run a stop sign and almost hit two pedestrians while a passenger was trying to jump out of the car. After he was in handcuffs, he head-butted an officer. He’s charged with reckless driving and assaulting a police officer.

All three firefighters are on administrative leave. Wonson could be fired because he is still a rookie on probation.
