Fairfax Man Dies in Crash; Speed Likely a Factor, Authorities Say

Authorities say Richard Walker, 32, was driving at an excessive speed while attempting to negotiate a curve

A Fairfax man died after crashing into a tree near Fairfax County Parkway Thursday afternoon.

He has been identified as Richard Walker of Fairfax Woods Way.

Authorities say Walker was driving on Popes Head Road at an excessive speed shortly before 2 p.m. and lost control of his Mercedes sedan while attempting to negotiate a curve.

He ran off the road, striking a tree, and pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Authorities are investigating the crash. They believe Walker was not wearing a seatbelt.
