Prince George's County Neighborhood Fights Holiday Package Thefts

With an increase in packages left at front doors during the holidays comes an increase in thefts of those packages. In Prince George’s County, one neighborhood is fighting back.

Many residents of the Perrywood neighborhood equipped their homes with security cameras. One camera caught a man running up to a house, taking a package and running away, and neighbors said that happened several times last week.

One resident said a medical device worth several thousand dollars was stolen last week after being set out on his porch for pickup, and he may get stuck paying for it.

“It kind of puts a face to the things that you wonder,” a resident said. “’Hey, I wonder who this is. Why are they targeting me? What did I do?’”

Many neighbors simply stopped shopping online.

“For the past five years, we’ve had our packages stolen off our porch 100 percent of the time,” the resident said.

“Because the Internet now is part of how people shop, it presents a situation for people to take advantage of it,” another resident said.

The man in the video was captured in Bowie with a second suspect during a separate package theft investigation, sources said. Charges are pending for the Perrywood theft.
