Funeral for Murdered Alexandria Activist

Family and friends gather to remember Lenny Harris

Thousands attended a funeral Monday for a slain community activist from Alexandria, Va.

"I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, for their well wishes, for coming out to support Lenny, because I feel like they really supported him, and he would be happy to know that all his work was not in vain," said his wife, Deborah Harris.

Investigators discovered the body of Lenny Harris more than a week ago in a Prince George's County, Md., well.

Police arrested 49-year-old Linwood Johnson, 26-year-old Tyrone Lewis and 20-year-old Ivan Newman in Harris's murder. Investigators said the suspects robbed Harris after he hired them to sell T-shirts for him.

At Harris's funeral at Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church in northeast D.C., there were prayers, songs and stories about a man who worked on behalf of th epoor and disadvantaged.

A reception followed at the Charles Houston Recreation Center in Alexandria -- the same rec center where Harris was last seen before his disappearance in September.
