Damaged Gas Main Forces Germantown Evacuation

Montgomery County Fire responded to a damaged gas main line in the 11400 block of Tulip Polar Terrace in Germantown Wednesday.

The incident happened around 10 a.m.  Fire officials said that construction contractors were working in the area where the gas line was struck.

As a precaution, fire fighters have gone door to door in the affected neighborhood to evacuate residents.  Residents on Tulip Polar Terrace, Tulip Polar Way, and on sections of Tall Forrest Drive are being evacuated.

In total, 70 were evacuated from surrounding homes.  A bus was brought in so that residents would not have to wait outside in the heat.

No injuries have been reported.  Washington Gas arrived on scene to control the leak.
