Car Skids into Bus, Passenger Killed, Driver Injured

Maryland State Police continue to investigate a fatal crash Sunday morning in Anne Arundel County that claimed the life of a woman from Queen Anne’s County.

Police said Miriam Barnshaw, 65, of Centreville, Maryland was killed when the car, in which she was a passenger, skidded into the path of a commuter bus on the Baltimore/Washington Parkway near Baltimore. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The driver of the car is identified as Brian Barnshaw, 30, of Centreville. He is the son of the victim, and he was taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

The preliminary investigation indicates that shortly before 8:30 a.m. the Barnshaws were in their Chevy Malibu, traveling west on I-695 and were exiting onto northbound Maryland Route 295, the Baltimore/Washington Parkway.

For unknown reasons, their vehicle entered the merge area of Maryland Route 295 when the vehicle skidded perpendicular onto the northbound lanes, when it was then struck by a commuter bus traveling in the fast lane. The commuter bus was transporting 18 passengers.

All eighteen passengers aboard the commuter bus were safely off loaded onto another commuter bus from the same company and transported to their destination. There were no reported injuries from those passengers traveling aboard the commuter bus.
