Officials say the Baltimore-Washington Parkway's northbound lanes will remain closed near the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport after a problem developed with a bridge-replacement project.
The Maryland State Highway Administration says the road will reopen by Monday morning's rush hour, if not sooner.
A $6 million construction project is under way that includes replacing two bridges on West Nursery Road over the parkway. On Friday night, workers planned to remove one bridge deck. But as they placed the deck on a piece of hauling equipment, officials say the load shifted.
Now it can't be hauled away as planned. The State Highway Administration has told the contractor to return the deck to its original position, which will require four large cranes to be brought to the site.
