WASHINGTON -- U.S. Capitol Police closed several Northwest streets Monday afternoon while they searched a suspicious car.

A Honda covered with stickers was stopped at about noon, police said. Because of a suspicious looking package on top of the car, police closed several streets, searched the car and interviewed the driver.

Until the car is declared safe, Third Street between Constitution and Maryland avenues and Jefferson and Madison avenues between Third and Fourth streets will remain closed.
