Seth Meyers is officially off the market, ladies. The "Saturday Night Live" writer proposed to his longtime girlfriend Alexi Ashe, Us Weekly is reporting.
Alexi, who is an attorney in Manhattan, reportedly met the comedian at a mutual friend's wedding a few years back and has been smitten ever since.
A source told the mag in 2011 that Meyers is "very excited for the next phase of his life" and that "he's known that she's The One for a while, but it was all about timing."
And the timing seems perfect right now!
Meyers is currently off from filming "SNL" and is about to replace Jimmy Fallon as the "Late Night" host.
It was announced in May by NBC president Bob Greenblatt that Meyers was set to take center stage beginning in 2014.
"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," Greenblatt said in a statement. "His years at 'SNL's' 'Weekend Update' desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the 'Late Night' franchise. On behalf of Steve Burke, Ted Harbert and Paul Telegdy, we couldn't be happier that Seth and Jimmy Fallon will be continuing their careers at NBC after growing up in this network's late night legacy."
"I only have to work for Lorne [Michaels] for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car," Meyers said in a statement. "12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."
Lorne Michaels, executive producer of "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night," added, "Since 1982, there have been three 'Late Night' hosts starting with David Letterman, and Seth couldn't be in better company."
Meyers has been an "SNL" cast member for 12 seasons and has been the sketch comedy's head writer for eight of them. He's manned the 'Weekend Update' desk for seven seasons.
Rumors of Meyers taking over at "Late Night" began soon after Fallon was officially named Leno's replacement.
