Nationals Acquire Asdrubal Cabrera From Indians

Less than an hour before Major League Baseball's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, the Nationals acquired shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for infielder Zach Walters.

A two-time All-Star, Cabrera is batting .246 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs in 97 games so far this season. He has spent the majority of his playing career at shortstop (730 games), but he can play second base. That would allow Anthony Rendon to play third base while Ryan Zimmerman remains out indefinitely with a significant hamstring strain. Cabrera is scheduled to become a free agent at season's end.

Walters hit .234 with three home runs and six RBIs in 40 games for Washington in the past two seasons.
